The spreading of Internet and of mobile phones has dramatically pushed up the demand for new broadband services, such us VOIP, video conferencing, chat, photos, videos and music.download.

To deliver them efficiently, Telecom operators have been gradually replacing the traditional and reliable TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) infrastructure with IP-based components, which are significantly more cost-effective and versatile than their legacy TDM counterparts.

As this migration is not so fast and easy, due to technical and budget constraints, operators are currently handling a mixed architecture TDM & IP, both for links and monitoring probes.

Microtel’s Ethernizer enables them to monitor the whole infrastructure using IP probes, saving money in future investment and optimizing the whole monitoring system. Ethernizer offers a series of technical features such as:

  • Convert SS7 (HDLC or ATM) on E1/T1/STM-1 links to SIGTRAN on Ethernet interfaces
  • Convert SS7 on STM-1 links to SIGTRAN on Ethernet interfaces and does RTP encapsulation of Voice Data Streams
  • Convert Gb-over-FR on E1/T1/STM-1 links to Gb-over-IP on Ethernet interfaces

Ethernizer E-613 & E-313 series converts SS7 Signalling in Sigtran (M2UA)

Interfaces with TDM systems (E1 HSL & LSL or STM-1 links) at physical level.
Performs signalling translation to IP format, gives output messages to 1/10 Gbps interfaces to connect to IP monitoring tools (IP probes).

Ethernizer E-615B & E-315B Signalling&Voice
an IP probe to monitor multiple STM-1 channelized links  (VC-12/DS0-64kbps), carrying SS7 Signalling and Voice simultaneously.

  • Input: up to 4 channelized STM-1 VC12/DS0 (64Kbps) transporting SS7  (HDLC based) and voice channels
  • Output: (2 x1) GbE or (2×1+2×10) GbE ports, depending on model

Protocol Conversion

  • SS7: Message Transfer Part2 (MTP-2) – User adaptation Layer (M2UA); up to 1024 Sigtran streams.
  • Voice: RTP (Real-Time Transport Protocol) encapsulation of Voice Data Streams, without transcoding function; up to 7812 RTP streams.
