VeEX, one of our key test and measurement partners, has just published its September product newsletter. Two things are worth flagging for anyone running fibre, data centre or Ethernet test programmes: a transceiver diagnostics update for 800GE, and new software for the MTX640 and MTX642.
800GE RXT: support for CMIS 5.3 Normalized Application Descriptor
The RXT product line now supports the CMIS 5.3 Normalized Application Descriptor (NAD) specification. In practical terms, this matters for optical transceivers that support more than fifteen application modes (AppSel codes) — a growing number of 800G modules on the market. Previously, AppSel views could struggle to represent that many modes cleanly; NAD support gives engineers an extended, correctly normalised view of AppSel codes and data path configuration, so transceiver validation stays accurate as module complexity climbs.
If you're qualifying newer 800G optics and have been seeing incomplete or awkward AppSel readouts on your RXT gear, this update is the fix.
New GA software for MTX640 and MTX642
VeEX has also released new general availability (GA) software for both the MTX640 and MTX642. Highlights include:
- AOC/DAC local test support (dual port application) for 100GE and 400GE
- Port type and rate information added to the file manager for quicker identification
- A more intuitive file manager layout
- A reminder that 32G Fibre Channel and OTU4 support has already landed in the MTX642
Both platforms are picking up momentum with new and existing customers, and we're increasingly seeing sales teams and partners moving accounts across from older platforms — TX340s-100GX and RXT-6400 — to the newer MTX640 and MTX642. If you're still on the older kit, it's worth a conversation about what the upgrade path looks like for your fleet.

VeEX has a packed events calendar over the next two months: an invite-only Nokia event on data centre, IP and PON deployments, interoperability demos with the Ethernet Alliance and OIF at ECOC in Spain, the SCTE Tech Expo in Atlanta showcasing the flagship product line, and Network X in Vienna in October at the Broadband Forum booth.
